Beautifully and intricately detailed, this Black Water Siren Studio exclusive is an accurate representation of the Ayida Wedo voodoo veve, completely hand carved, then cast in a solid metal of your choice, oxidized to bring out the detail, and polished to a high shine. It is detailed on both sides, and will look great no matter which way it is worn. Durable and hefty, a little over 1/16" or 2mm thick, this is an enduring piece of art that will stand the test of time and become a family heirloom for generations.

Comes with a sturdy jump ring bail to attach to a chain or add to a charm bracelet. This does not include a chain. Please check the Accessories collection if you would like a chain to go with it.

Charm itself measures 1" wide by  1" tall (2.6cm x 2.6cm), or 1-1/8" tall with bail ring. A little over 1/16" or 2mm thick.

Ayida Wedo is a lwa of fertility, rainbows, wind, water, fire, and snakes in voodoo, she is known as the Rainbow Serpent, and represents the unity of life. She is married to Damballah. Damballah and Ayida are the original couple, the Divine Mother and Father of all new life and of humanity. They oversee fertility and childbirth. Like Damballah, Ayida Wedo is a great cosmic lwa that coils around all the world and is the one that makes creation possible. The red part of the rainbow was male while the blue part was female. She is the female counterpart of the male rainbow serpent and together they rule the skies. She is in the heart of all the trees, springs, pools, and rivers. Ayida Wedo is petitioned for rain, serenity, healing, and blessing.

"In the beginning there was a vast serpent, whose body formed seven thousand coils beneath the earth, protecting it from descent into the abysmal sea. Then the titanic snake began to move and heave its massive form from the earth to envelop the sky. It scattered stars in the firmament and wound its taught flesh down the mountains to create riverbeds. It shot thunderbolts to the earth to create the sacred thunderstones. From its deepest core it released the sacred waters to fill the earth with life. As the first rains fell, a rainbow encompassed the sky and Damballah took her, Ayida Wedo, as his wife. The spiritual nectar that they created reproduces through all women and men as milk and semen. The serpent and the rainbow taught humankind the link between blood and life, between menstruation and birth, and the ultimate voodoo sacrament of blood sacrifice.”

Ayida Wedo is a member of the Rada family. Her ceremonial colors are white and blue. Appropriate offerings to her include white chickens, and white foods; white eggs, rice, and milk. Her favorite plant is cotton. She is syncretized with the Catholic figure of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception.

Her daughter is Ayizan, the goddess of the marketplace and of initiation into the sacred truths, making Ayizan the head Mambo (Voodoo priestess).
