Loko is the lwa of healers, gardeners, and herbalists. He is the spirit of vegetation, the guardian of sanctuaries, and the personification of the trees.  Loko has an extensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical use of herbs and gives healing properties to the leaves.

Beautifully and intricately detailed, this Black Water Siren Studio exclusive represents the Loko voodoo veve, completely hand carved then cast in a solid metal of your choice, oxidized to bring out the detail, and polished to a high shine. It is detailed on both sides, and will look great no matter which way it is worn. Durable and hefty, a little over 1/16″ or 2mm thick, this is an enduring piece of art that will stand the test of time and become a family heirloom for generations.

Comes with a sturdy jump ring bail to wear on a chain or add to a charm bracelet. This does not include a chain. Please check the accessories collection if you would like a chain to go with it.

Pendant is about 7/8″ wide by 1-3/16″ long including bail.

Loko (also spelled Loco) is patron of healers and plants, especially trees. He is a Racine (root), and a Rada Loa. Loko is the husband of lwa Ayizan, and just as she is the archetypal Mambo (priestess), so her husband Loko is considered the first Houngan (priest).

Loko is the spirit of vegetation, the guardian of sanctuaries, and the personification of the trees. He gives healing properties to the leaves; he is the God of healing and patron of certified herbalists who always call before starting treatment. His favorite colors are red and white. Sometimes Loko appears in the form of a butterfly.

Loko has an extensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical use of herbs. It is said that Houngan and Mambo receive their knowledge from him. He is known for his good judgment and for his intolerance to injustice; he is often called on to be a judge during conflicts. It is said that Loko hides in the wind and listens to people without them noticing. He has many wives and girlfriends who are young and attractive throughout the country wherever there is vegetation. Loko is compared to an invisible Houngan with authority in all sanctuaries. Loko is also a lwa messenger, but his main tasks relate to the vegetation of woodlands and forests. He also oversees the agricultural tools that farmers use in their daily activities.

As the spiritual parents of the priesthood he and his wife are two of the lwa involved in the Kanzo initiation rites in which the Priest/ess to be is given the Asson (sacred rattle and tool of the priesthood), and are both powerful guardians of “reglemen,” or the correct and appropriate form of voodoo service. Loko teaches the correct ceremonies and ways of voodoo, keeping tradition and knowledge of voodoo alive.
